The shift is the full run, not just the time spent serving customers. Understanding the transition from quota to overtime and from clock-out to closeout prevents the most expensive category error: treating the end of service as the end of danger.

1. Prep

Players begin in the back of the restaurant and decide how to approach the round. The shift starts only when someone pulls the clock-in lever. Optional order channels can be enabled during prep for more income and more workload.

2. The shift

Customers arrive, orders stack up, and the crew cooks until the round's credit quota is met. Incoming order complexity scales upward during the shift. Register work, cooking, assembly, and fulfillment all feed the same shared objective.

3. Overtime

Reaching quota starts overtime instead of ending the round. The crew may continue serving for extra money, but the environment breaks down faster with time. This is the game's explicit greed window.

4. Clock out

A dedicated clock-out lever ends service and flips the building into its closing routine. The crew chooses this moment, so the decision should account for current stability, accumulated problems, and how coordinated the team feels.

5. Closeout

Closing duties appear after clock-out. Confirmed examples include taking out trash, putting out fires, and shutting off appliances. At the same time, the lights fail and Asset Joy wakes up.

6. Escape and payout

Completing every duty opens the path out through the escape hatch. Payout is calculated at the instant each player escapes. Only survivors receive a share, so the run is not banked at quota or even at clock-out.

7. Return to the Lair

The group returns to the Lair after a win or loss. It is the between-shift hub for restaurant selection, progression, cosmetics, and side activities. A full team wipe can trigger a last-player-standing consolation brawl for a chance to recover part of the lost payday.
